Yaduraya, the founder of the Wadiyar dynasty, built the first palace in the fourteenth century. The palace had multiple modifications over the ages as a result of war and natural disasters destroying it.

The palace showcases a sophisticated blend of Rajput, Hindu, Muslim, and Gothic architectural elements. lavishly furnished with paintings, chandeliers, elaborately carved doors, and stained glass ceilings.
